In this week's lecture about colours, we were tasked to create our own colour scheme from a photo taken by ourselves. Here, I chose this photo of my study desk and breakfast.

The muted and earthly colours effectively create and reinforce a certain calming mood in this picture. The colours are complementary with one another due to the analogous colour scheme, which makes the entire colour palette harmonious and pleasing to the eye. For instance, the hues are red-orange (brown), orange, green, blue and yellow.
As seen from the colour palette, there are 3 main colours: brown to dominate, green as a supporting colour and the use of orange as an accent colour. The value and chroma of each colour are similar; this is also another factor that makes the colour palette blend nicely.
Brown
Brown is associated with the earth, wood, and stone. It’s a completely natural colour and a warm neutral. The colour is used in wood textures and also in the coffee. It brings warmth and an earthy feel to the picture.
Green
Green is another earthy colour. Here, the use of muted green supports the brown colour to bring a warm and natural feel to the picture.
Orange
Orange is a very vibrant and energetic colour. It is often used as an accent colour. However, in its muted forms it can be associated with the earth and with autumn. Here, the spoon, magazine and artboard are orange in colour, which is highlighted among the browns. The use of orange commands attention but it is not as overwhelming as red, which complements the other colours better in this picture.
In essence...
I think that the overall colour palette portrays a calm, warm and earthy feel, where each particular colour and shade evokes this feeling/mood as well.
