In-Lecture Exercise G

In this week's lecture about elements of design, we were tasked to draw/create a pattern.

Figure 1: Pattern arranged from lightest to darkest (stage 1 to 6)

The Basic Pattern

Firstly, I came up with the basic building block of my pattern in stage 6. Using a semi-circle in the base and then using uneven, thick lines that extend increasingly, I formed a fan shape (although I found the end result to resemble a wifi symbol 🤣). This makes up the basic pattern. From there, I increased the complexity of the pattern in each stage.

Increasing Complexities

Here, I came up with a pattern using fan shape (or wifi shaped) curved lines and duplicated it. At stage 4, I introduced the shape again while hiding it behind the previous shapes to create complexity. Then, I continued to duplicate the patterns until the final pattern (stage 1). Since I felt that the pattern may look like it consisted of just mini wifi symbols, I used a dark blue background to contrast with the fan shape. The color also adds on a more oriental feel to the overall pattern.
